Democrats of Napa Valley Club—General Meeting Minutes

  1. CALL TO ORDER – 5:35 PM, Johanna O’Kelley
  2. Approval of Minutes
    1. Changes: Need to add “n” to Ketron.
    2. Approval: unanimous
  3. President’s Report
    1. With current political climate, there are many opportunities for involvement.  List of these opportunities will be located on our website.
    2. Need an endorsement committee to set up a questionnaire for candidates running next year. To vote for the endorsement, must be a paid member of the club (by March), be at least 18 by the time the vote happens, have been to at least 1 meeting in the last 24 months.

  5. Secretary’s Report
    1. None at this time – handing out information on donating to Community Action Napa Valley (CANV). If you’d like to drop off food for the CANV food bank, can go to 1766 Industrial Way, Napa CA 94558. If interested in donating to their other health and nutrition programs, visit http://canv.org/

  9. Announcements
    1. Announcement of Voter Registration volunteers – two new members that will be helping us with voter registration: Cindy Watter and Trina Daugherty
      1. Fun Facts:
        • 167 voting precincts in Napa County
        • Precincts by city: City of Napa = 90, AC = 11, St. Helena = 6, Calistoga = 5, Yountville = 4
        • Starting next year, there are going to be same-day registration
      2. Our committee will do an “adopt a precinct” program to cover each region in the city; walk the precincts, know your neighbors, and register those who haven’t done so. This will help us get turn out so people don’t feel like “strangers” are coming at their door.
    2. Board of Supervisors meeting tomorrow (11/21/2017): presentation on all housing bills that passed and were signed by Governor Brown. There will be a discussion on how Napa County can take advantage of the new laws.
    3. Kaye Hall was selected as Artist of the Month at the Napa County Library. You can find her painting near the entry of the library (to the right).
    4. Conchita Marusich just published book: “In Search of William Wolfskill: Journey to Find the Legacy.” Hosted book signing at Copperfield’s Book Store on Saturday, November 18th. You can read the press release on the Napa Valley Register.
  10. Presentation on Healthy CA Act – S.B. 562
    1. Speakers:
      • Carolyn Bowden, CA Nurses Association
      • Melissa Johnson, UC Davis Medical Center
      • Inda Shirley, Health Care for All
    2. S.B. 562 is in Rules Committee – can’t make changes to it until it is moved out of Rules Committee. We want to ask them to push it out on January 2nd, when the Assembly is back in session.
